Dr. Sadia Ahmed
Dr. Sadia AhmedBoard Certified Rheumatologist
Dr. Ahmed completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University at Buffalo. Following that, she completed her subspecialty Fellowship in Rheumatology at the University of Rochester. Prior to her fellowship, Dr. Ahmed was the Chief Resident at the University at Buffalo Internal Medicine Program.

She is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology but focuses only on Rheumatology. She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology.

Dr. Syed Ahmed
Dr. Syed AhmedChief Medical Officer
Dr. Syed Ahmed is a board-certified psychiatrist and has been practicing in the WNY area for the past 14 years. He is affiliated with University at Buffalo and carries a title of clinical assistant professor of psychiatry. He has also done a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry from the University of Rochester New York. His area of interest is psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavior therapy.

He is an expert in providing treatment for all acute and chronic mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic-stress disorder and schizophrenia. He is licensed for addiction treatment including opioid agonist therapy, Suboxone treatment and medical marijuana for conditions permitted by New York state law.

Maria Rizzo
Maria RizzoPhysician Assistant
Maria Rizzo finished her physician assistant education at D’Youville College in Buffalo. She was fellow trained by Dr. Syed Ahmed in 2022 in the area of psychiatry. She works very closely with Dr. Ahmed to provide the very best Psychiatric care to the people of Buffalo.
She is qualified to treat a numerous range of behavioral conditions, including ADHD/ADD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Strokes, and PTSD.

Audrey Glover
Audrey GloverNurse Practitioner
Audrey is a board certified nurse practitioner who completed her Master’s degree in Family Medicine at Arizona State University in 2011. Prior to becoming an NP she worked for many years as a nurse in a large medical center in New York City. Her strong and unique nursing background helps her to provide the best care possible to each and every patient. She seeks to build long lasting and trusting relationships with patients and their families. In her free time outside of the office she enjoys reading, running, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Katherine Smythe
Katherine SmytheLCSW-R,CCM, DAPA
With over 40 years of experience in mental health care at the VA Western New York Healthcare System, Katherine has been with the Suburban Medical Group for 4 years. Her career at the VA has included work on an acute inpatient unit, day programs/residential care, Adult Day Health Care, Behavioral Health Clinic and Transition and Care Management for Veterans, Service members and family from the Iraq/Pakistan war. She has extensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Family and Couples therapy and Trauma Counseling (PTSD). Ms. Smythe has been a clinical supervisor since 1999 and is nationally certified as a Clinical Case Manager. She serves as the facility’s Employee Assistance Program Coordinator (EAP) and accepts referrals from Military One.

As well as being an Adjunct Professor at the University of Buffalo and Daemen College, she has developed a number of programs in the VA and local community.

Dr. Matthew Abrams
Dr. Matthew AbramsLicensed Psychologist
Dr. Matthew Abrams is a licensed psychologist in the state of NY with academic affiliations to several local colleges/universities. He has been with the practice for the past 3 years. He provides clinical training and supervision to psychology doctoral interns, psychology practicum students, psychiatric residents, and licensed mental health counselors. He completed his PhD coursework at Loyola University Chicago and his doctoral internship training at the University of Notre Dame.

He is trained in several evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavior therapy for chronic pain, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, cognitive processing therapy, and prolonged exposure therapy. He is expert in providing treatment for all acute and chronic mental health conditions (e.g., anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, etc.) with particular emphasis on the relationship between emotional and physical wellness. In his free time he enjoys running, playing sports, spending time with family, and working on his garden.

Madelyn Schlegel
Madelyn SchlegelPhysician Assistant
Madelyn is a certified Physician assistant who completed her master’s degree in the Science of Physician assistant studies from Daemon University in 2018. Prior to joining Suburban Rheumatology, she worked in family medicine perfecting the basics of medical care.

Her background makes her proficient in identifying complex diseases and prescribing the best treatment. She seeks to provide patients with excellence in medical care while building trusting relationships with patients, families and caregivers.

Sophia MillerLCSW-R
Sophia is a social worker with 36 years of experience. She possesses a broad range of experiences that include severe mental illness, homelessness, and other psychosocial problems. Sophia has worked in both the VA hospital and local psychiatric practices providing individual treatment to adults with a variety of mental health diagnoses and psychosocial problems.
